Reading Glasses

Reading Glasses was already a very attractive and successful web site when I took it over in October 03, however under the covers it was a mess. The site structure relied on layers of nested tables, broken and depreciated html, very little css, and buckets of hard coded formatting. Overall, the site was a pig. This directly resulted in poor natural search engine performance in my opinion.

My first project was to code everything from scratch in xhtml/css. Not only would this tidy up the code (and make it 50% lighter in places), but it allowed me to completely audit all of the site content and audit it for better search engine performance. The project was a huge success, we were able to cut most of the budget for pay per click (PPC) search terms because the site was doing so well in natural searches.

See for yourself:

My day to day work on reading glasses was mostly maintaining the product catalog. Below are designs/features that I was directly responsible for:

My contribution to this page was displaying featured styles from both the designer and budget frames, as well as "just arrived" frames to keep the site fresh.
